Sell Made-to-Order Products on TikTok Shop

Overview


Made-to-Order (MTO) product is a TikTok Shop selling type designed for products that are produced after a customer places an order, such as personalized items, handmade products, or print-on-demand goods. With AfterShip Feed, you can create and manage MTO listings directly from Feed without manually configuring them in TikTok Seller Center.


Unlike Standard products, MTO listings include a handling duration of 3โ€“14 business days, giving merchants additional time to prepare or produce items before shipment. TikTok Shop automatically extends the shipping SLA based on the selected handling duration.


Set the selling type for a listing


MTO listing is configured at the SKU level, which means each product variant can be set to Standard or Made-to-order selling type.


1. Batch configure via โ€œSet selling typeโ€


When editing a listing, you can configure the MTO selling type for multiple variants at once:


  1. Click Set selling type (find next to Set price/Set inventory).



  1. Select the selling type as Made-to-Order.
  2. Enter the order handling time between 3 and 14 business days.



The selected selling type and handling duration will be applied to all included variants in a single action.


Availability


If Made-to-Order is not supported for the selected product category or your TikTok Shop account, the option will appear disabled (greyed out) with a tooltip.



2. Edit selling type for individual variants


The variants table includes a selling type column where you can also manage the selling type separately for each variant. The Selling type column shows the current selling type and handling duration. 


To update a variant:


  • Change Made-to-Order to Standard using the per-row dropdown menu. Once switched, the handling duration field will be hidden.
  • Change Standard to Made-to-Order via drop-down. After switching, the handling duration input appears.



3. Edit selling type for active listings


After a listing is published, you can still update the following:

Modify MTO handling duration

Identify MTO listings


On the product listing page:


  • MTO listings display an MTO badge below the product name
  • The TikTok Shop product type filter to view only MTO or Standard listings



Manage MTO orders in Feed


MTO orders are synced to your DTC store the same way as regular TikTok Shop orders. 


Feed automatically writes TikTok Shop SLA deadlines into the synced order, to help the team plan fulfillment:

SLA details are added to the orderโ€™s additional details.


Other platforms


For WooCommerce, Wix, Magento, and other supported platforms, SLA details are added to the order note.

Order timestamps are converted to your DTC store timezone. If the timezone is unavailable, UTC+0 is used.


Filter MTO orders


Orders containing Made-to-Order items are labeled with a Includes MTO tag in the Orders list.


You can use the order tag filter to:


  • Include MTO orders
  • Exclude MTO orders



This helps your operations team quickly identify orders that require production time before shipment.
